The Best Bottles, cups and Sippy Cups for Babies and Toddlers
Choosing the right bottle is a huge decision regardless of transitioning from breastfeeding or just going straight to bottles in general. The cleanup itself is such a hassle. There are so many on the market and such mixed reviews, that I decided it would be helpful to outline my pros and cons on trying all of these bottles. Note, my son never had nipple confusion with any of these. He was a very laid -back baby and every baby is different, so do what works for you! BUT I am going to let you know my upfront thoughts and suggestions in case you’re wondering which bottle to go with or try!
We tried Dr. Browns & Avent bottles first. I hated them and how much work they were. I know a ton of people use them because they are used at hospitals and are some of the most recommended, but I ended up going with the new innovation, Comotomo, because I trusted the technology and the reviews.
Here were my thoughts when trying all three brands:
- Dr. Brown & Avent bottles have like 5 pieces to clean within the bottle because they have tiny filter pieces inside. Comotomo has 3 pieces to clean. Just the nipple, lid and bottle itself. This saves so much time!
- Dr. Brown & Avent bottle nipples didn't look as much like a breast as the Comotomo. I was breastfeeding my son and really wanted something that mimicked the boob. Comotomo also has silicon on the outside that mimics skin-on-skin rather than a hard, plastic bottle.
- Pierson, my son, never got gas with the Comotomo. I'm not saying your baby won't (all babies are different), but Pierson responded SO well to the Comotomo that I didn't turn back!
- The Comotomo also has handle attachments that will start helping train them for sippy transition! Pierson ended up transitioning to a sippy cup SO easily going this route.

For sippy cups, man did I struggle... Some come out too fast, some are too hard to latch/suck and some wouldn't even come out at all when I tried sucking! I literally bought every recommended sippy on Amazon and ended up going with the Tommy Tippee linked below. Here's why: 1.) The nipple and pace were about the same texture and drip as his last level bottle nipple. 2.) Pierson transitioned seamlessly from bottle to sippy with this bottle. He hated the others. The only con is that the lids can be a bit frustrating because it's hard to line them up, but eventually we got the hang of it. We also love the Elk and Friends and the Cupkins cups that have the straws!

Mama Tip: If you're doing Daycare or dropping off with a Nanny, I highly recommend this travel cooler to store the bottles in while driving from here to there! 4-6 bottles fit in this cooler (even the taller Comotomo bottles). This is what we used to store my breastmilk and baby food in when we were doing daycare runs! For daycare, we would pack the bottles with the ounces of milk per feeding, so it made it easy to stick in their fridge when we got there. It's also great for travel! I can't count how many times I've pumped in the car and needed to store it in the meantime.
