Simple Organization and Home Decor to Refresh Your Laundry Room

Here you are, the hustle and bustle of holidays are over. You start taking down all of your holiday decor, purge the trash and things you no longer need. You start feeling better and less overwhelmed until you turn around and all you see is piles on piles of laundry... Big sigh… LOL! Listen, I am here with you and for you! So, let’s find a solution and get organized (for good) together!

My laundry room is right off of our kitchen, so unless I remember to close the door, everyone can see in. Also, my toddler runs through the house always opening our doors, so it’s impossible to follow him around to close them! Feel relatable? Well, in this blog post, let’s get our laundry room situation organized and functional. That way, it looks good even when laundry is piled up!

  1. First, you will need to buy a few bins OR baskets that match the home decor you are going for. My home decor approach is always modern and minimal.

  2. Then, purchase or make some labels. I used baskets from Target, got some basket clips from Amazon and then created my own labels from my Cricut! I bought my Cricut last year and absolutely love having the convenience of creating my own labels and stickers when needed! If you’re in the market for one, they are having some sales on them here and a great bundle here!

  3. Pull everything and every load of laundry out of your laundry room. Yes, I mean everything. That way we can compartmentalize where everything should go.

  4. Next, spray everything down and dust. Clean the washer, dryer, countertops and the inside the cabinets. Now, everything is squeaky clean and you have a fresh space to work with!

  5. Lastly, let’s start organizing. Is it just you and your partner? Do you have kids? Get those baskets and labels out and start maneuvering them around the space to make it functional for you. Don’t just make it look staged or pretty. Organize this space in a way that will be functional for you! For example, it was easier for me to just do four baskets just out on the counter. They would have looked better in the cabinet, but I’m short and that’s just not ideal or functional for me.

  6. When you do laundry, make sure and knock it out one day at a time and make your family put their clothes away as soon as their bins are full! Put it on your kid’s chore charts. A tip to make this fun : Start making a collection jar from the money you find and whoever unloads the most over a month or two, give them the collection jar! Make it something fun and competitive if you have kiddos that hate chores!

  7. Now, you should have a functional laundry room! I know it takes some time getting used to the new routine, but you will thank yourself later when company is unannounced and you still get compliments on a somewhat messy laundry room! With bins, baskets and organizers, a space always looks somewhat clean. This is why I love this system so much!
